Chickamauga Lake
Tennessee
Sunday, March 15, 2026
I'm expecting a good bite today, especially with the water temperature at 51°F and the bass being active. The overcast skies will keep the sun off the water, making it easier for the bass to feed throughout the day. Since it's a pre-spawn period, we'll focus on slower presentations to mimic injured baitfish or crawdads, which should trigger some reaction strikes.
â°Best Times to Fish
The low light conditions during sunrise, combined with the rising barometer, will make the bass more active and aggressive, increasing our chances of hooking into some quality fish.
As the day wears on and the wind picks up, the bass will seek shelter in areas with more cover, making them more susceptible to our presentations, especially the slower, more finesse-oriented ones.
đŁTop Lures for Today
Suspending Jerkbait - Shad
Jerkbait
The suspending jerkbait is perfect for this time of year, as it allows us to target bass that are suspended in the water column, feeding on baitfish or crawdads.
Tube Bait - Green Pumpkin
Tube
The green pumpkin color is a great choice for this time of year, as it mimics the color of crawdads and other bottom-dwelling creatures that bass love to feed on.
Spinning Rod - Medium Light 6'8"
Spinning Rod
The silver color will give us a different look, and the fast retrieve will appeal to any bass that are actively feeding on baitfish.
Pro Tip
When working the jerkbait, try pausing it for a few seconds near any structural elements, like rocks or weed beds. This can trigger some reaction strikes from bass that are ambush predators.
Where to Target
Focus on areas with plenty of cover, such as submerged vegetation, rocky structures, or sunken logs. Also, look for areas with a mix of sand and gravel, as these can be prime feeding grounds for bass. Don't be afraid to punch that tube bait into thick vegetation or work the jerkbait around structural elements.
Avoid
Avoid areas with too much current or open water, as these can be less productive for bass in pre-spawn periods. Also, steer clear of areas with too much boat traffic, as this can spook the fish and make them less active.
Safety Warning
Be aware of the changing wind conditions, especially in the afternoon, and make sure to secure your gear and maintain a safe distance from other anglers.
