The conditions aren't ideal today, but we can still get some action going. I'm giving you one lure, the 5" Stick Bait, three different ways, because it's a finesse worm day, partner - let me show you how to make 'em bite. With the water temperature at 58°F and the clarity being clear, we're gonna need to be subtle and patient.
â°Best Times to Fish
The late morning sun will have the bass seeking shade, so look for areas with plenty of cover, like submerged vegetation or sunken logs.
As the sun starts to set, the bass will become more active, and the falling temperature will trigger a feeding frenzy. Look for areas with a mix of sand and rocks, and be ready to cast into any structure you can find.
đŁTop Lures for Today
5" Stick Bait - Green Pumpkin
Stick Bait
This technique works well today because it allows us to present the bait naturally, without spooking the bass. The green pumpkin color will also help it blend in with the surroundings, making it less likely to scare them off.
Wacky Jig Head - 1/8oz
Wacky Jig
The wacky jig head will add a bit of weight to the stick bait, allowing it to sink faster and get down to where the bass are hiding. The finesse presentation will also help us to avoid spooking them, and the green pumpkin color will still blend in with the surroundings.
Wacky Rig O-Rings + Hook Kit
Wacky Rig Kit
The dead-stick presentation is a great way to get the bass to bite when they're not actively feeding. By letting the stick bait sit on the bottom, we're giving them a chance to find it and eat it without feeling threatened, and the green pumpkin color will still blend in with the surroundings.
Pro Tip
Pay attention to the wind direction and speed, and use it to your advantage. If the wind is blowing into a particular area, it can stir up the baitfish and attract the bass. Use a gentle presentation and be ready to set the hook.
Where to Target
Hit those shady pockets along the bank, especially near any fallen timber or submerged vegetation. The bass will be seeking refuge from the sun, and these areas will provide them with the cover they need.
Avoid
Avoid areas with too much current or turbulence, as this can spook the bass and make them less likely to bite.
Safety Warning
Be careful when wading or fishing from shore, as the water can be slippery and the banks can be steep. Wear a life jacket and make sure you have a first aid kit handy.
