Lake Guntersville
Alabama
Saturday, March 14, 2026
The conditions are a bit mixed today, but I'm optimistic we can still get some bites. The neutral fish activity and clear water mean we'll need to focus on finesse presentations to get those bass to commit. I'm recommending a single lure, the Jerkbait, in three different ways to increase our chances of landing some fish. It's all about that suspending Jerkbait today, partner - I'm gonna show you three ways to make 'em bite.
â°Best Times to Fish
The low light conditions during this period will make it easier for the bass to ambush our lures, and the rising barometric pressure may trigger a morning feeding frenzy.
As the sun starts to set, the bass will begin to move into shallower water to feed, making them more accessible to our lures. The clear sky will also allow for a good topwater bite during this period.
đŁTop Lures for Today
Suspending Jerkbait - Shad
Jerkbait
The Jerkbait's suspending action will allow it to hover in the strike zone, giving those bass a good look at the lure. The shad color will also help it blend in with the surrounding baitfish, making it a natural choice for today's conditions.
Tube Bait - Green Pumpkin
Tube
The increased speed will help the Jerkbait cover more ground, allowing us to search for active bass in the area. The shad color will still provide a natural presentation, even at the faster retrieve speed.
Spinning Rod - Medium Light 6'8"
Spinning Rod
The slow, finesse presentation will allow us to target those finicky bass that are hiding in the thicker cover. The Jerkbait's suspending action will still be effective, even at the slower retrieve speed, and the shad color will continue to provide a natural presentation.
Pro Tip
Don't be afraid to experiment with different retrieve speeds and actions to see what the bass are responding to. Sometimes, a slight change in presentation can make all the difference in getting a bite.
Where to Target
Focus on areas with plenty of cover, such as submerged logs, rocky drop-offs, or weed beds. These areas will provide ambush points for the bass, and the clear water will allow us to see any bites that may occur.
Avoid
Steer clear of areas with heavy boat traffic or excessive noise, as this can spook the bass and make them less likely to bite.
Safety Warning
Be sure to dress in layers, as the temperature is expected to fluctuate throughout the day. Also, keep an eye on the wind, as it may pick up in the afternoon, making it more difficult to present our lures effectively.
